Fat-free and organic foods are in great demand there and makhana with the percentage of protein and carbohydrate 12 and 79 respectively perfectly fulfils the criteria. .
Madhubani district is also famous for its large-scale cultivation of Makhana.Realising its great potential the state government is going to encourage its cultivation in seven more districts of Bihar also. That includes giving seeds, financial support and technical assistance as well as purchasing the product from farmers.
